Homemade Hand Sanitizer & Recipe for the Family
Hand sanitizers can be very helpful but most commercially available hand sanitizers contain alcohol, which is very drying and irritating to the skin. There is a great sanitizer recipe based on Thieves’ oil. This can be purchased already made up from several companies. You can also make it at home using pure essential oils. Have the kids help mix it up and they will love it!
Recipe:
Glass Bottle
Filtered Water
Aloe Gel: Experiment with the proportions of water and aloe gel. Aloe gel keeps the mixture smooth and is softening for the hands. We suggest 1 part aloe gel to 2 parts of water
Cinnamon Oil (2-3 drops)
Clove Oil (2-3 drops)
Rosemary Oil (2-3 drops)
Eucalyptus Oil (2-3 drops)
Lemon, Orange or Grapefruit Oil (5-10 drops; used for scent)
Mix the water and aloe gel in the desired proportion. Add essential oil and shake to mix well.
All the oils have anti-viral and anti-bacterial properties. The citrus oils are added for scent as well as for their therapeutic value.
